The Rosario Church is one of the oldest Churches in the undivided diocese of Mangalore. The Church established in the year 1568. And the present Cathedral was dedicated in the year 1915. Its centenary (1915-2015) was inaugurated by Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza at the Church premises here on March 2nd Sunday, 2014. Prior to the inaugural ceremony, Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius celebrated the festive mass at 4 p.m. The stage programme began with a prayer dance followed by the welcomed dance. The Vice President of the Parish Council Dolphy D'Souza welcomed the gathering.
Fr J B Crasta Parish Priest of Rosario Cathedral briefed on the Centenary pastoral activities. He said that nearly 100 activities spread throughout the year will be executed by the members of the Parish Pastoral Parishad. Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza the Bishop of Mangalore unveiled the Centenary logo depicting the Faith, tradition and the heritage of the Church. A book "Kursachi Waat" (Way of the Cross) authored by Marcel D'Souza was released by the Bishop.
In his inaugural speech Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza the Bishop of Mangalore said, "The Parish is one family and parishioners are the members of the family". He said that people love their parish and their parish priest. Our people are affectionate and they are concern of their pastor. Such good thoughts and traditions must be carried and pass it on to their children. He also said that when people consider the Parish as their own family, they serve that family with dedication and work for the total growth of the parish. We are seeing such services only in the Christian community because the Holy Spirit is guiding us.
Mr. J R Lobo and his family once lived in Rosario parish and now he has elected as the MLA of Mangalore South Constituency, was felicitated by the Bishop on the occasion. In his speech he said that we must have a mission as we enter into the centenary year. If we have a mission and vision then only we could build a strong parish community and society.
A cultural programme was held soon after the stage programme by the parishioners. A short play called ‘Barnabas Rosario’ written by Fr Alwyn Serrao was enacted during the cultural programme. The program concluded with the meal prepared by the parishioners. The meal was shared with all the sick people of the parish. Mr John D' Silva Secretary Parish pastoral Parishad delivered vote of thanks. Ms Ida Furtado compared the programme.
